Flourish
In the Relics series, I use the colors and shapes of single-use plastics as a palette in the camera, transforming what was made to be thrown away into something luminous. These works are meant as quiet markers of a different future: one in which plastics are relics of the past, not agents of harm.
Flourish bursts with movement and color. Petal-like arcs of turquoise, rose, gold, and green spiraling outward against a dark plum background. Created using single-use plastics, the work transforms the discarded into painterly abstraction, echoing the vitality, and delicacy of a flower in bloom.
Yet even in something as pure and essential as flowers, researchers have begun finding traces of microplastics embedded in petals and pollen. These fragments travel through air and soil, carried invisibly into the plants that sustain both pollinators and people. Flourish holds that tension…radiant beauty entwined with the hidden imprint of our consumption.
